Spindle palms (Hyophorbe verschaffeltii) are native to Mascarene Islands just off the coast of Australia. The spindle palm is an elegant palm that is prefect for small landscapes. It has a very unique shape trunk, that is swollen in the centre forming the spindle shape that it is well known for. The crown shaft is bright green colour with feather like fronds arching outward and down at the ends, forming a v like shape. For best growth it prefers a full sun position, reaching up to 6 metres tall in the right conditions however a part shade position can be tolerated.
- Requires moist & well drained soils
- Fertiliser twice a year will assist growth
- Produces fragrant creamy flowers that are followed by an orange oval fruit.
